BLOG DISCONTINUED

April 14, 1865

Tonight I'm seeing Our American Cousin with Mary.  I hope that I can apologize for not spending so much time with her, and tell her of my plans for the future.  The play is supposedly good, so hopefully Mary and I will have a nice time.  Since the war is over, I hope my life may be a bit more relaxed, and I can spend more time with my family, ecspecially Tad.

The Confederacy has finally surrendered! After years of fighting, and so many lives lost, it has all been put to an end. Washington DC has already been beginning to celebrate, and to be honest, so have I. I hope that after my term to move back to Springfield with Mary, and since we haven't had a lot of time together because of the war. This is the best new I have heard for a long time.

Union Army Marching Into DC

March 4, 1865

I had my second Inauguration today.   In my address I told every one about my Reconstruction Plan.  There would be no repercussions from the Confederacy seceded, and I would welcome them home again.  I hope to free the slaves, and find them a place to live, schools, and jobs.  I have a personal gut feeling that the war will end soon, and we need to be prepared.

The Address

November 19, 1863

I issued the Gettysburg Address today.  Though I highly doubt this will be remembered in any way shape or form, I though this was important.  I worked hard on this speech, because this was the turning point of the war.  The Union won at this battle, and I hope to win more.  I am truly sorry for the lives lost at this battle, but I hope, no, I KNOW, that they have not died in vain.

The Gettysburg Address

My life has been extremely difficult these past few years.  I'm attempting to hold the country together, my son Willie has died (with typhoid fever, same as Anne), and the Union's morale is at an all time low.  So today i initiated the Emancipation Proclamation, which, I hope, will succeed in releasing any slaves in Confederate areas, keep Britain out of the war, keep the Border States on the Union's side, and boosting the morale of the troops.  If I can do that, then I believe that we can win the war.

The Emancipation Proclamation

March 4, 1861

I was inaugurated as president today! It was a bittersweet victory, yes I am in the highest office of the United States, but I am also facing the biggest crisis our country has ever faced, the destruction of the Union.  I've had to answer the same question over and over again, and no, secession is not legal.  Though the Constitution might say that it IS, the United States did not begin with the Constitution, it began with the Declaration of Independence, which said nothing about the right to secede, it said that the people had a right to form government, and I refuse to look at the states as the people as a whole.  Though I am facing this crisis, I am quite excited to be president, and my children are even more excited to move into the White House!

My Inauguration

August 21, 1858

In the past four years, I have became a leader of the new Republican party.  Today I had a debate with Stephen Douglas, and the house was packed.  I felt like I was preforming in a play.  I'm running against him in the Senate.  It went on for hours, but the debate was quite heated.  I hope to debate against him another time, I think I'm becoming a major force in the new Republican Party!

A poster made for the debates.

Our fourth son was born today! His name is Thomas Lincoln, but his head is so big, his body is quite small, and he is as wriggly as a tadpole, so I've called him Tad.  Tad seems to be a handful of a child, he has hardly stopped trying to escape Mary's arms all day!  He is truly a blessing, and I think his older brother, William,  will like to have a younger brother to play with.  I named him after my father, who I have mentioned that we had a somewhat strained relationship, but I hope, and I think, that it won't be the case here.

Tad, a few years later.

Our third son, WIlliam Wallace was born today!  He's an extremly handsome child, I'm sure he'll be extremly popular with all the children he meets.  I hope he gets along well with Robert, though I'm considering raising WIlliam differently than Robert.  In an earlier post I said that I would be tough on Robert because I loved him, but Robert is very harsh towards me, and I dont think he likes me much.  So maybe if I do the opposite of being hard on him, letting him do whatever he wants, then maybe Wiliam won't be as tense as Roert is.  Unfortuantly, Robert reminds me of my father and my relationship.  I hope me and William are well together, wish us luck!

My second son, Edward, was born today! It's very exciting for me and Mary, we are very happywith Robert right now, and Edward seems to be a good addition to the family.  Nothing brings us more jyy than having little kids in the house, and we can't wait to raise Edward!

My son was born today! We named him Robert Todd Lincoln, Mary has always liked the name.  I had a rather rough childhood, me and my father didnt get along.  i didnt even go to his funeral.  But I if I'm hard on him, the only reason would be because I love him, or so I thinnk.  In any case, wish us luck with our first born.

My Son, in his older years.
