My life has been extremely difficult these past few years. I'm attempting to hold the country together, my son Willie has died (with typhoid fever, same as Anne), and the Union's morale is at an all time low. So today i initiated the Emancipation Proclamation, which, I hope, will succeed in releasing any slaves in Confederate areas, keep Britain out of the war, keep the Border States on the Union's side, and boosting the morale of the troops. If I can do that, then I believe that we can win the war.
